Novamed is a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care which, based in Germany, is the world's leading kidney dialysis company engaged in both providing dialysis care and manufacturing dialysis products. The Petrol-Is union organized in this company in April 2006, but the management refused to recognize the trade union. They systematically forced workers to resign from the union and succeeded with around 300 workers. The union has been on strike since 26 September 2006 - the first strike action ever taken in a free trade zone in Turkey.
