Workers stage sit-in at embassy

MORE than 50 workers of a construction firm of the Industrial Area staged a sit-in in front of the Indian embassy seeking its intervention for their repatriation.

The workers, who have been in Qatar for more than 26 months complained that they had not received salaries for the last four months. They were said to be without any work for more than three months.

Later in the evening, the embassy officials summoned representatives of the company and the latter were reported to have given an assurance to the mission that all salary arrears would be cleared soon after the Eid. They assured the embassy officials that they would also arrange the tickets for the workers to travel home.

The company officials attributed their inability to make payments to the delay in receiving money from various agencies involved in the works that the company had been carrying out, said embassy sources.
